PLDT Inc. announced Wednesday that patrons in Metro Manila and some areas will have 8-digit landline numbers beginning in October to comply with new ordinances.
The National Telecommunications Commission had instructed carriers to shift to 8 from 7 numbers “to address the insufficient number of assignable exchange codes,” PLDT said in a comment. Competitor Globe Telecom declared a similar effort.
The change concerns those whose numbers are accessible with area code “02”: Metro Manila, Rizal province; San Pedro, Laguna and Bacoor, Cavite, PLDT stated.
“PLDT subscribers and those calling them will have no difficulty adjusting to this number change. All they have to do is add the number ‘8’ at the start of the existing landline number. So, if your existing number is say 123-4567, then it will become 8123-4567,” said PLDT and Smart public affairs head Ramon Isberto.
The shift will commence early morning of Oct. 6 from 12:01 a.m. to 5 a.m., the carrier said.
Callers from the provinces need the dial as usual, “0” plus area code “2” plus the new 8-digit landline, PLDT said.
