Man electrocuted while swimming in Bacoor river

A man died Saturday noon after he was electrocuted while swimming in Metiza River in Bacoor City during the heavy storm caused by the southwest monsoon or “habagat”.

Police named the victim as John Dave Amigo Magpayo, who was declared dead-on-arrival at the Bacoor District Hospital. The age and home address of the victim were not promptly identified.

A report that the Cavite Police Provincial Office (PPO) released on Sunday, August 4, revealed that the incident happened at 12 noon.

The report stated that the victim was seen swimming with two friends at the height of the heavy downpour in the river near the vicinity of Aguinaldo Highway in Barangay Panapaan VII, Bacoor. It was the first “habagat” casualty that was reported in Cavite.

Some streets were reported flooded in Panapaan on Friday and Saturday due to the heavy downpour, the overflow of Metiza River and clogged drainage systems in the area. (Anthony Giron)
