The month of May is considered the National Heritage Month. In celebration of the said event, the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) shall conduct a lecture-workshop on May 31, 2018 at Museo ni Emilio Aguinaldo (MEA).
Following the nationwide commemoration theme: “Pambansang Pagkakaisa Para sa Pamana,” MEA is offering “Ang Kabataan at ang Pamanang Bayan,” which intends to impart the importance of local heritage to nation building, stated Cavite Cluster Head and MEA curator Haidee Paulette Bedruz.
The event will help the younger generation gain the knowledge and appreciation in the primary protection and preservation of local heritage.
The featured resource speaker is Kara Garilao of the Fundacion Santiago, a non-government organization (NGO) advocating and sustaining historical awareness among Filipinos. The organization holds this shared purpose as one of the foundations of national development.
MEA likewise invited newly elected SK Chairpersons of Kawit, “in the hope that the new youth leaders will serve as stewards of heritage,” Berduz said.
As youth leaders take part in the event, Bedruz believes that the youth, with their enthusiasm and passion, can easily share to others the importance of preserving the nation’s heritage.
The month of May every year is National Heritage Month, in accordance with Proclamation No. 439, s. 2003.
The annual commemoration proposes to build maintaining awareness, honor, and admiration for the legacies of Filipino cultural history, as well as solicit support for heritage protection.
