President Rodrigo Duterte announced on Monday, August 31, that college students who are children of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) will receive a one-time grant of P30,000 subsidy.
Duterte said in a televised briefing that the educational assistance will be granted to college-level children of displaced, non-returning, repatriated, or deceased OFWs affected by the coronavirus crisis.
He added that the cash aid will be given to students who are “enrolled or is intending to enroll” in a state or local university or college and other private tertiary education institutions recognized by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).
“Ang tulong po sa edukasyon sa mga anak niyo nito is a one-time grant of P30,000. The project will be allotted with the amount of P1 billion which will benefit about 33,000 students from OFW families,” Duterte explained.
According to him, OFWs may seek further information on the subsidy from the CHED, the Department of Labor and Employment, or the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration.
