The Metro Manila Film Festival has released on November 17, 2017 the list of the 2017 official film festival entries. Setting a new direction for the selection process, this year’s MMFF Executive Committee involved representatives from various sectors such as the academe, government, media, and private companies to take part in choosing the films.
Of all the 26 submitted entries, the movies that made it to the Magic 8 are the following: All of You (directed by Dan Villagas), Gandarrapiddo: The Revenger Squad (directed by Joyce Bernal), Meant to Beh (directed by Chris Martinez), Ang Panday (directed by Rodel Nacianceno), Deadma Walking (directed by Julius Alfonso), Haunted Forest (directed by Ian Loreños), Ang Larawan (directed by Loy Arcenas), and Siargao (directed by Paul Soriano).

1. All of You
The movie tandem Jennylyn Mercado and Derek Ramsay makes a comeback in “All of You,” a romantic comedy movie directed by Dan Villegas under Quantum Films.
2. Gandarrapiddo: The Revenger Squad
Vice Ganda returns to the big screen with an action comedy movie under Star Cinema and Viva Films. The comedian host will be starring in this entertaining film with actor Daniel Padilla and Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach.
3. Meant to Beh
Vic Sotto, paired with actress Dawn Zulueta, stars in the family-oriented comedy film “Meant to Beh,” directed by Chris Martinez under Octo Arts.
4. Ang Panday
The Ang Probinsayo lead star Coco Martin takes pride in the remake of the classic Pinoy film “Ang Panday.” The film entry, originally played by icon Fernando Poe Jr., was directed by Martin himself.
5. Deadma Walking
Deadma Walking is a comedy-drama musical film directed by Julius Alfonso and written by Eric Cabahug. It stars Edgar Allan Guzman and Joross Gamboa, both characters portraying gay roles. In 2016, the movie has won a Carlos Palanca Memorial Award for Screenplay in Filipino.
6. Haunted Forest
This horror movie stars Joey Marquez, Maris Racal, and Hashtags members Jon Lucas and Jameson Blake. Directed by Ian Loreños, this is the only entry in the horror/thriller genre.
7. Ang Larawan
Based on a theatrical play by National Artist for Literature Nick Joaquin, Ang Larawan becomes a star-studded musical featuring seasoned theater actors Rachel Alejandro and Celeste Legaspi.
Featuring Jericho Rosales and Erich Gonzales, the movie Siargao highlights the beauty of the Philippines’ surfing capital and its charming community. It is directed by Paul Soriano under TEN17 Productions.
