Trece Martires City, Cavite Vice Mayor Alex Lubigan has been reportedly shot dead Saturday, the most recent person to be on the list of murdered local government officials.
Based on a report from News5 Aksyon, the slain vice mayor was killed by a gunshot in front of a Korean hospital.
Lubigan, 44, was inside a black Toyota Hilux vehicle when the assassination took place at 3:15 in the afternoon in Brgy. Luciano, Trece Martires City, CALABARZON Region Police Chief Edward Carranza told DZMM radio.
Carranza continued that the police are watching over the possibility of local politics as the motive behind the deaths.
Police Senior Superintendent William Segun, Cavite’s police director, stated that Lubigan died immediately. Also, there were statements affirming that the slain vice mayor’s companion, Romulo Guillemer, 55, died at General Emilio Aguinaldo Memorial Hospital.
Lubigan’s passing happened only a few days after the killing of mayors of General Tinio, Nueva Ecija and Tanauan City, Batangas—suggesting suspicions of a burgeoning spirit of nonliability under the government of President Rodrigo Duterte.
But the Palace had declared the recent assaults of local government officials were an “attempt to erode the confidence in the president, whose main platform of governance rests on fighting crimes.”
