Four police officers were charged with neglect of duty after they were caught by their own chief sleeping on the job.
Senior Superintendent William M. Segun, Cavite Police Provincial Office (PPO) director, directed the filing of the administrative charges against the four officers after relieving them himself for their misbehavior.
It was Segun who saw the officers following a surprise inspection pre-dawn on Tuesday at the Bacoor-Panapaan and Longos precincts; as with the Imus-Daanghari Road outpost.
Segun took photos of the officers using his phone.
One of the photos showed an officer in uniform apparently in deep repose on a cushioned folding bed; while another policeman, who had just seemingly awakened, was observed seated with a woman.
Segun criticized the erring officers on site. He also urged them to present a written explanation as to why they were sleeping while on the job.
The PPO commander authenticated his actions against the sleeping officers Wednesday during the first command visit of Chief Superintendent Edward E. Carranza, newly appointed director of the Police Regional Office IV-A or the Cavite-Laguna-Batangas-Rizal-Quezon (Calabarzon) Police Command.
When questioned, Carranza and Segun were one in saying that performance and discipline are a must for police officers.
Both officers replied erring officers should carry the consequences of their deeds.
