The Senate has approved the third and final reading of House Bill 5367 which sought to reapportion certain legislative districts in Cavite which, in effect, would make General Trias City its own legislative district.
Once enacted, General Trias City would be the new 6th district. Trece Martires City, Tanza, and Amadeo from the current 6th district plus the town of Indang would compose the new 7th district while the new 8th district would be what’s left of the current 7th (Tagaytay City, Alfonso, General Aguinaldo, Magallanes, Maragondon, Mendez, Naic, and Ternate).
The said bill which is authored by Representatives Luis Ferrer IV of the 6th district, Abraham Tolentino of the 7th District, and Roy Loyola of the 5th District. It seeks amendment of the Republic Act 9727 Section 1 which reorganized the province into its current 7 districts.
As far as practicable, the legislative districts shall comprise contiguous, compact and adjacent territory. Tis is as per the 1987 Constitution.
