A Filipino pedicab driver was put into the spotlight by Hollywood actor Mark Ruffalo, who played the Marvel character Hulk, on Twitter last October 21, when he posted a photo of a Hulk action figure made out of recycled flip-flops and gave a shoutout to its Filipino creator.
The action figure was highly praised for its sustainability and creativity not only by Ruffalo but also by his co-actor Chris Hemsworth in the upcoming movie Thor: Ragnarok, who also received a toy figure himself. The inventive genius is no other than Elmer Padilla, a resident of Imus, Cavite who drives pedicabs as a job and creates fantastic work of art as a hobby. Padilla first rose to fame on social media when a passerby in the streets of Imus posted his story on Facebook and went viral.
At a very young age, Padilla learned how to make his own toy figures out of discarded materials due to poverty. Today, he sells action figures made of rubber from old flip-flops and hopes to aspire more people to see his craft.
