QUEZON CITY – The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has issued the official order of P1-Provisional Increase for Public Utility Jeepneys (PUJs) fare in three regions, yesterday afternoon.
The jeepney groups’ demand was partially granted as the LTFRB amended their pending petition signing for a P2-fare increase for the first four kilometers in the National Capital Region (NCR), Central Luzon (Region III), CALABARZON (IV-A) and MIMAROPA (IV-B), now increasing the fare to P9.
Given the increase of fuel prices, the following groups have initiated the petition last September 2017:
- Federation of Jeepney Operators and Drivers Association of the Philippines (FEJODAP)
- Land Transportation Organization of the Philippines (LTO)
- Alliance of Transport Operators and Drivers Association of the Philippines, Inc. (ALTODAP)
- Pangkalahatang Sanggunian Manila and Suburb Drivers Association Nationwide Inc. (PASANG-MASDA)
According to the Department of Energy (DOE) Portal (as of June 22, 2018), the PUJ’s typically-used fuel has now its average diesel pump price ranging to P41.55 to P46.50, relevantly different from the 2017’s diesel price range amounting from P31.00 to P33.00.
Meanwhile, some of the local jeepney drivers have not started the P1 increase yesterday afternoon, saying that they need to secure their fare guide copy for their questioning commuters.
“Wala pa kaming katunayan na 9 pesos na, kaya hindi muna kami naniningil, mamaya sa halagang piso…magtalo pa”, Dasmariñas City PUJ Driver Bong Layno said.
Moreover, the P9-provisional fare is effective as of the order’s issuance, with its 20% discounted fares for students, senior citizens and person-with-disability (PWDs).
