Landslide hits Kaybiang Tunnel Road, road impassable

Due to heavy rains in Cavite’s upland town of Maragondon, a landslide beat the Kaybiang Tunnel Road at around 4 a.m. Tuesday, causing the tunnel to be impenetrable to motorists.

Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Regional Director Olivia Luces, who also heads Calabarzon’s Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC), said that no casualty or damage has been recorded.

Luces said the Calabarzon OCD-RDRRMC operations center has raised its Blue Alert status as of 5 p.m. Monday as the provincial DRRM offices of Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon were on intensified warning due to the forces of the southwest monsoon magnified by Tropical Depression Henry.

Luces said Cavite, Laguna, and Batangas are encountering light to moderate with irregular heavy rains; while Rizal and Quezon are experiencing light to heavy rains.
