Driver of Imus city mayor faces homicide due to traffic dispute

A 45-year old businessman in Imus, Cavite was reported dead after getting involved in a traffic misunderstanding incident with Michael Rodil Canizares, driver of Imus City Mayor

The victim was identified as Dennis Narra Saique, who was rushed to the hospital but eventually died due to ‘subdural hematoma’, a result of abrupt traumatic damages in the head.

According to the report, the victim was giving his OFW friend a ride when the dispute happened. The police investigation states that both parties had a disagreement that led to a fist fight, to which Canizares denied.

Henry Oringo, a friend of the victim, said that he and Saique only caused a minimal scratch during the encounter with the suspect, who was on a motorcycle.

“Kinat niya po ‘yung service namin na L300. Napahinto si Dennis, napahinto rin ‘yung motor. Kumbaga, nagka-anohan sila… ‘Yung asawa noong hinatid namin na kaibigan, nagpakilala sabi ‘Pare, mga bisita ko ‘yan’,” told Oringo.

When things heated up, Canizares left the scene, came back with the security guard of the subdivision and suddenly punched Saique.

“Sabi niya sa amin, nagko-conduct talaga kami ng roving as SOP, sa gabi kaya may kasama akong guard… ‘Pag harap po nu’ng Michael kay Dennis, bigla niya agad ng sinuntok. Walang kaabog-abog, walang komisyon,” said Oringo.

The family of the victim now demands justice to be given to Saique after Canizares, who was charged with homicide, bailed out of jail.

The City Legal Officer of Imus City Hall confirmed that Canizares is the driver of Imus City Mayor Emmanuel Maliksi. The local government said that Canizares was immediately removed from public service while the investigation is ongoing.

The office also vowed to give justice to the family.
