DOLE, DSWD to aid HTI fire victims

Fire victims from House Technology Industry (HTI) may avail up to P24,000 of medical benefits according to Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Silvestre Bello III.

The aid up to 120 days, accounting to maximum of  P200 per day, will come from the Employees Compensation Commission (ECC) which also includes livelihood and skills training to severely affected survivors who will be unable to get back to work. Moreover, pension or lump sum will be processed immediately for those who became disabled from the incident.

Bello added that aside from providing financial assistance to hospitalized workers, the HTI management also promised that the workers who were displaced by the fire will be absorbed in other areas of operation.

Though the companies within the export zone are under the Philippines Economic Zone Authority (PEZA), Cavite Governor Jesus Crispin Remulla stated that the provincial government will also assist victims especially those who are badly injured and may not immediately be able to return to work.

In addition, the Department of Welfare and Social Development has also shown support to survivors. “We at the DSWD want to assure the workers of HTI our full support and readiness to provide what assistance is within the means the DSWD to give to help them,” said Secretary Judy Taguiwalo.
