Noveleta, Philippines – Everyone was filled with vibrance and joy as residents of Noveleta celebrated the 112th Feast of the Holy Cross and the 62nd year of Nuestra Senora Dela Paz Y Buen Viaje-Reina de Noveleta from May 2 to 4, 2017. Over 5,000 residents of Noveleta gathered in the town plaza to show support and take part of the activities during the celebration.
Two Churches Unite
The festivities commenced with the much anticipated annual Karakol, a traditional religious procession performed through a dance by devotees on the eve of the feast day. As men and women of all ages paraded towards the town center, the crowd danced and rejoiced to the upbeat rhythm played by the marching band.
This year’s observance of the Karakol made a remarkable history in the country as devotees of two big churches, namely the Philippine Independent Church and the Roman Catholic Church, set aside their differences and danced together in honor of their respective patron saints.
The feast was graced by no other than Municipal Mayor Dino Reyes-Chua who initiated the unity between the two Catholic churches. In cooperation with Parish priests Father Paul de Leon of the Roman Catholic Church and Father Zaldy Arnaiz of the Philippine Independent Church, the fiesta’s Karakol dance, shared in peace and unity by the two parties, was made possible.
